2018 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Hatchback

Volkswagen no longer offers diesels, Chevy steps in to fill the void. The diesel Cruze is very efficient with the E.P.A. rating it at up to 48 miles per gallon. Tom Voelk checks to see whether that’s true. And you thought that diesel was dead in the US…

I am happy to learn this car is available.  What a great idea to have such a car for commuting or tooling around town in an efficient manner.  Great review Tom, you've covered it well.  I enjoyed learning about this.

Terrific review, as always. Thank you, Tom.

Isn't Chevy killing the manual transmission cruze?

Too bad diesel is far more expensive than premium gas so any savings from MPGs is a complete wash

  5. James Dick

Too bad GM is slashing production volume on these. Crossovers are eating sedans and hatchbacks alive in the US. I hate it.

    Great review as always!

    ZF 9-speed? Hope not…

Wish this was the VW 2L turbo diesel. This 1.6L by GM is underpowered in this application. Not surprised as GM seems to just show up to the party and not really try to bring anything. Had potential though. The price tag is way too much.

I can't believe GM has never changed that dash font! Reminds me of a 90s GMC truck.

This car is actively hidden on their tier 1 site. The sedan is shown but the hatch is hidden in the build feature unless you really search around.

    Love my X5 diesel

Those rear windows are terrible. Why does the belt line slope so much? It's not sporty.

Missed you, Tom! Another great review!

Just heard yesterday GM dropped another shift at the Cruze plant. Now down to one from three, I thought the last model body style was much better looking.

will the evil twin get his own channel? LOL

It’s way better to underrate a vehicle’s fuel efficiency than overrate it, even if both are wrong. Ford is learning that with the ecoboost engines. But it definitely should be rated at 50 mpg highway for the auto as well.

I would rather have a volt

I was told VW will start repairing and releasing TDI models soon at a huge discount. They have several thousands sitting on storage lost costing big bucks… Anyone heard about this ??

I didn’t notice any advanced safety tech.
